Weapons of a choice breaks the rule of a conventional music video therefore it is unprofessional done.
The first 30 seconds of the song is based on a man sitting down on a chair on location shot- inside an building (hotel or store), this breaks the rules as you wouldn’t want to carry on watching due to the music video is there to entertain and this music video doesn’t do that.
Music video normally star either the protagonist- artist/main singer or star someone in the band where as this music video doesn’t star either of them, we can tell this as the visual doesn’t run parallel with the track.
The mise en scene doesn’t create a band image for people to follow, as it doesn’t link with the genre of the music.
The typical ideologies of a music video is based on love where as this music video is based on nothing really as that is what the video creates
Although this music video breaks the conventional rules, it does use typical music language, which involves using different shots and angles in order to create excitement
Bat for Lashes - What's a girl to do
This video is unconventional because it is fully shot on location. In the video we see, ‘Bat for Lashes’ riding a bike through a forest, surrounded by extras riding bikes, wearing forest animal masks.
Like most music videos, this one features, the main artist – protagonist, yet does not feature any of the other members of the band. The video does not follow any narrative, because we only see her riding the bike and nothing else. There is only one continuous shot used throughout the video, whereas conventional music videos vary in shots and angles of shots, to create excitement.
Typical media language is not used in this video, as the lyrics and the visual do not run parallel to each other.
